Getting Married or Eloping at Skógafoss Waterfall in Iceland

A waterfall flowing into a river surrounded by green hills and rocky terrain

Skógafoss is by far Iceland’s most famous waterfall! It isn’t the largest in the country, though.

According to legend, the first Viking settler in the area hid a treasure chest behind the falls, + while the chest was never fully recovered, part of its handle is said to be displayed in a nearby museum.

Historically, Skógafoss marked the coastline before the sea receded, giving it deep roots in Iceland’s early settlement era. Today, it remains a powerful symbol of the natural history + folklore.
