Taking My Own Headshots Using Canon’s Camera Connect App
I’d been in need of some new headshots for my page and website, so I decided to make use of my white backdrop, white corinthian column from Hobby Lobby, baby’s breath flowers, and new-ish (to me) Canon AE-1 in my studio!
I set up my Canon camera by affixing it to a tripod and connecting it to my phone via Wi-Fi and the Canon Camera Connect app. This app lets you see exactly what the camera sees, remotely control the camera settings, and take photos with the camera! There’s nothing more convenient for self portraits, in my personal opinion. Gone are the days of focusing and self-timing a camera, running over and not being fully ready for the shot by the time the camera snaps.
For these photos, I had my ISO at 200, aperture at 2.8, and shutter speed at 125.
I decided to implement baby’s breath, my favorite flower to adorn my house with (and to photograph!), in some recycled glass bottles I had lying around. The white column exuded old-fashioned class, while the glass bottles added a more modern touch. The daintiness of the baby’s breath added a gentle touch to the shoot, also subtly complementing the white backdrop I chose for these photos. I chose an editing style that offers warmth and also a green touch to the images, giving a regal impression to match my corinthian column.
